Today, I had to take christian to the doctor because he is sick. As many of you know, a sick toddler is never cooperative or in a good mood. Christian began to scream in his car seat, so I took him out to console him. He began arching his back, screaming and throwing what would be considered a horrible fit. I clearly was very anxious as other parents around me started to stare. Right as I was about to take him out into the hallway to calm him down, a little girl with down-syndrome, probably around 10 years old, walked over to me and sat down next to me. She began to make silly faces and play peekaboo with Christian. She sung to him and tickled him under his neck. Christian immediately calmed down. His tears dried up and he began to smile and laugh. She asked me if she could hold him, and I with much gratitude, told her absolutely. She bounced him up and down on her knee, and sang the itsy bitsy spider to him. Christian just stared at her in awe. As if she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Because quite frankly, she was. Her mother walked over and asked if she was bothering us. With tears in my eyes, I said absolutely not. The little girls name was called to go back to see the Dr. As she walked away, Christian watched her every step. He then looked at me and smiled. I have never felt so much emotion overwhelm me. So, thank you Claire. You made my day and my sons life so much brighter. You are one of the most beautiful souls I have ever come come into interaction with. Thank you for sensing my anxiety and helping out a total stranger. ❤
