Ellen and fans - AMAZE (amazeworks.org) is a small non profit in Minnesota that started when a little girl received a homemade birthday card from a classmate that said "Dear Ellie Willie Billie, I hate you girl lover!" Ellie, had two mommies who worked with other parents, educators and community members to create a way for kids to learn respect across differences and to stand up to mistreatment and in justice when they saw it. Today our work is in 33 states and we work with early childhood and elementary school teachers to build safe learning spaces where ALL are respected and welcome. We get teachers talking about bias, stereotypes, race/ethnicity, different family structures, gender identity, you name it. AMAZE WORKS! We are always struggling because even though this work makes students perform better in school and classrooms safer - hardly any school district prioritizes this work. We are aligned with standards, meet social emotional learning criteria and support teachers to do this important work. Can you spread the word?
