Hunters Heros - Hunter Drayce Miller
Description
Hunter Drayce Miller is the proud son of Dewey and Cassidy Miller. He was born premature at 28 weeks on September 4, 2011 at 12:27 a.m. Hunter weighed 2lbs 6 oz. at birth. Hunter has endured many obstacles in his short and precious life. He had Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) heart surgery at 10 days old, he was diagnosed with severe Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) lung disease (very common in premature infants), and he has severe asthma. After six months on the ventilator and several failed attempts on C-PAP, Hunter was able to come off the ventilator with an Avatar C-PAP mask. This helped Hunter from having to get a tracheotomy. After being on the Avatar mask for 5 months Hunter has been able to slowly start using nasal cannula. (oxygen) He currently just reached 24 hours on nasal cannula. Hunter has a G-J tube (feeding tube) this feds into his intestines not to his stomach, Hunter has had issues in aspirating back into his lungs, so he is not fed by mouth. Hunter has a Level 1 brain bleed that could cause future developmental delays of his motor skills. He already suffers from constant hand movement and is being treated with neurological medications. He has a mild case of cerebral palsy. (Cp)

Initially, Hunter was given a 50% chance of survival due to his lung issues but he has fought his lung issues and now he is close to weighing almost 19 lbs. a year later. Although Hunter has spent his first year of life at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (minus about three weeks at OSU Medical Center where he was born) in Columbus, Ohio, he has made tremendous progress. He has been surrounded by many great doctors and loving nurses.

Hunter's daddy was deployed with the Army National Guard in Washington D.C, the whole year Hunter was in the hospital and could not be with Hunter and mommy.Since September 2012 Dewey has returned home from deployment . Hunter spent 403 days in the NICU at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio. Hunter went home on October 9 2012. He is at home on a liter of oxygen 24 hours a day and a g-tube for feeding and a home nurse. Hunter faces many obstacles still at home like therapies and many doctor appointments. We are praying that one day Hunter will out grow all of his medical conditions.
