This wonderful lady was such a bright light when ever you walked into our high school - she greeted every one with a smile - even if her day wasn't going that great - she made sure that every one else's day would be a good one - she was one of the most caring and dedicated department chair and it didn't stop with just taking care of her own department - the math one - she also was willing to work with any and every teacher and student at Minooka High School. It is a very sad time for our high school - we really would appreciate it Ellen if you could brighten up her day the way she always brighten up all of ours
Shawn Capodice is the perfect definition of what a model teacher and parent should be. She believes in every student but most importantly every person. My first 6 years of teaching I had the privilege to work in the same hs as Mrs. Capodice. She was so kind so loving even though I taught in a different department. She made you feel like a friend and school family instantly. And Mrs. Cap was always up for a good time. I had the honor to teach both of her children and wow what an amazing job she did as a mother because her kids are great and show so many of the wonderful qualities of Shawn. Honestly I could write 10 pages or more of how Shawn Capodice is amazing in so many ways. Ellen I know how you like inspiring educators well Shawn Capodice is one of the best. Please give her a call.
I first met Shawn when I was just a freshman in high school in 1988. At that time, she was a student teacher at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox. Fast forward to 2003, our paths crossed again when I became a staff member at Minooka Community High School. Shawn hadn't changed a bit - energetic, vibrant, and funny as hell. But the best thing about Shawn is that she is real. What you see is what you get. And fortunately for so many people, what we get is an amazing person to call a friend. A few years ago, Shawn was the face of strength for her department and our school as one of her department members battled pancreatic cancer. While Mike eventually lost a brave and inspiring fight, Shawn was there every step of the way to make sure Mike's family and her MCHS family were taken care of. Now Shawn is engaged in her own brave and inspiring fight, and we want to make sure she and her family are taken care of. For all she has done for us, we are all asking you for one thing, Ellen - please call our friend. You inspire her. You make her smile. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people deserving of your time. We just push Shawnie to the top of that list because she is ours - and we love her more than anything. Plus, we know you'd quickly come to love her as all of us do. Thanks, Ellen. We hope you can give her a call.
This very special beautiful woman, my sis in law, is a courageous hero, not only to myself and her family, but to the entire community. She is so loved and is always giving to others and taking care of others. Please consider fulfilling this wish of hers by giving her a call, as she admires you so much. Thank you Ellen! We love you Shawnee!!!!!❤️
You are an amazing inspiration to me. My best math teacher to date- made me like a subject i hated. A great friend to my mom! A fabulous second mom to my brother!!! Love that you have been a working mom and have raised such incredible kids and endured your marriage at all times. You continue to amaze me with your awesome attitude and amazing spirit! Love u!!!
Shawn has the rare ability to make every person she talks to feel like they are the most important person in the world. It is impossible for me to put into words what she means to me and countless others that have the privilege of knowing her. Ellen- if you could give her a phone call and make her smile it would be much appreciated!
I have so many memories of math class with Mrs. Cap, she made kids who hated the subject love it! She would collect all the kids prom pictures in collages on her walls, she cared about each and every student whether she taught them or not. She is truly an inspiration of how to be a caring, compassionate and giving person.
Mrs. Cap is the kind of teacher you remember years later. She was always optimistic, helpful, compassionate, caring, and NEVER let a class period go by without getting the entire room to laugh. She is a staple of Minooka Community High School! I love you Mrs. Cap, thank you for always putting in the extra minute (or five) to help me. I hope this vote will do the same for you! :)
Shawn is one of the Good Guys! Always a smile on her face and in her heart, regardless of the situation. With all of the updates we have heard about her while battling this, her only concern was for her immediate family and her MCHS family. PLEASE, Ellen, reach out to Cap, just as she has throughout her entire life.
Dear Ellen,
If you could imagine you, teaching a math class, that is Mrs. Cap.
Mrs. Cap is the best math teacher I have ever had. I believe that the reason Mrs. Cap is drawn to you, Ellen, is not only that you both are such sources of positivity and kindness, but you both share the same sense of HUMOR! Mrs. Cap had me in tears laughing, in my math class!!! I still remember the inside jokes we had almost 10 years ago! Firstly, ladies, as you get older, pluck the whiskers on your chin, ok? Everyone gets them. It’s not anything to feel bad about, but just take care of it. Secondly, stay away from the kid in the back of the class with overalls. You just don’t know what’s going on back there, and you probably don’t want to know. (You’ll have to ask her for more information on the phone because she has so many stories from her educational experience that will have you rolling on the floor!)
On a more personal note, math was my worst subject, and I was in one of the lower levels of math that she taught. Even though, none of us were naturals at it, she believed in us and prepared us to succeed in our math placement tests. Where some math teachers get frustrated with those who do not catch on quickly, Mrs. Cap was always incredibly patient, kind, and encouraging. Please give her a call. It would mean so much to her and to all of us at Minooka who love her so much.
I love you Mrs. Cap! Thank you for sharing your gift of teaching with humor to all of us. You have made this world a brighter place. Keeping you and your loved ones in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Megan Geyer--Class of ‘07
EDIT: P.S. Cap, I got my Master's degree and I am doing advanced statistics now. Cheers to you! :)

Ellen, please grant the Capodice family this wish. This is the most amazing and generous family who has touched so many lives; even during their most difficult time. The Caps continue to put others first. I know this first hand because recently my sister in law was battling stage 3 breast cancer and when Shawnee and Brian (her husband) heard about my sister in law they decided to fund raise on her behalf and donated all the proceeds to her. They had never even met my sister in law. This is just one example of their kindness and love, the examples are endless. Hearing your voice would make Shawnee's day! Everyone who knows and loves her would be forever grateful! It would be a tremendous gift for you to call her.
Good things are meant to be shared...this is one of those best! Laughter, tears, sweat and support...Shawnee is the heart of her family and friends and many who chance to meet her. A call from you would bring her a HUGE smile. Please reach out to share with this fan of yours...and ours. Help affirm Shawnee as a beautiful gift. God bless!
Dear Ellen, Shawnee Capodice has lightened my life and always brightens up a room when she walks in. She is one of the strongest women I know and the sweetest. So has played one of the most important roles in our society, a teacher, department director. She always helping others and it would be great if you can grant her this wish! Thank you!
Mrs. Cap was an amazing teacher. We had her for Math class, and I remember they were planning on letting her go in efforts to make room for new heads of each department. We were so moved by her we formed a walk-out! Class of 1997 wasn't going to let the best teacher (and the others) get let go. It worked they cancelled the entire plan. My prayers to you Ms. Cap!!!!!!
Ellen I know you must be an unbelievablly busy woman and I'm sure you receive tons of requests for a minute of your time, all well deserving. In a much different venue, Shawn has also received countless requests for her attention. Requests from students, parents, teachers, colleagues and administrators not to mention family and friends. Like you, she has dedicated her life to serving and helping others. She always made you feel as if you were the most important person in the world! She also did it with true, frank honesty and humor! Sometimes the message isn't what you wanted to hear but needed to hear... You always walked away from those conversations with a smile and a chuckle .... Even through her current heath crisis, the conversation was never about her. She always seemed to have a new funny story, you always knew how proud she was of her kids and family and always wanted an update on you and your family. Always, there was laughter! Ellen please give her a call. I know you can bring another smile to her face! We her family and friends, and anyone associated with Minooka Community High School loves her and is forever indebted to her. Please grant her wish! Bert
I feel so honored to have had Mrs. Capodice as a teacher. She was so passionate not only about math, but us as well. She just wanted us to succeed. The room lit up when she walked in. She always had a funny story or joke to share. i can't think of anyone else who deserves this more than she does!! Please give her a call!
Ellen,
We can appreciate that you are a very busy woman, but our dear friend Shawn is in need of some laughter. She is a huge fan of yours and there are many who are fans of hers. My first impression of Shawn was she is an amazing person. She is outgoing, personable, and she radiates kindness. She is the type of person who can walk into any room and instantly make friends. She is spunky like you. During her career, she inspired countless students and colleagues. She is what an educator should be. Shawn has gone above and beyond for many. Our small community has been through a lot of heartbreak in the past ten years and through it all, we have all rallied together. One of our biggest cheerleaders is Shawn. Ellen, please give Shawn a call; instantly, you will see how special she is!

Cap is one of those people that doesn't come around often enough. Quick to laugh with a fine wit, quick to care with a heart of pure gold, and one of the most dedicated teaching professionals it has been my pleasure to meet and work with for 18 years. You will see that the second you begin talking to her.
Ellen, Mrs. Cap taught me math when I was in high school. She made a HUGE difference in my lack of math skills and made me feel like I could accomplish anything. She shines inside and out. Her love for teaching, family, and life truly shows in her upbeat and positive attitude. Please grant her wish and call her!
Shawn is the brightest color in the crayon box. When I go to a family reunion I really always gravitate towards Shawn, she is so funny (no really- ALL THE TIME). She is the life of a get together! She has inspired me to become a teacher myself, and lets not talk about the amazing Mother and Wife she is to her amazing family. Words cannot describe how many people just adore her, and although we live further away... her love of life is just infectious! TEAM SHAWN! WE LOVE YOU SHAWN SO MUCH! Kisses and hugs! Ang
Dear Ellen:
I have been a long time friend and fellow worker with Shawn Capodice. Throughout her illness I have felt helpless in trying to help her. But here is something that I can do. Please read carefully all of our letters about Shawn and please consider making that phone call. It would mean so much to her and to all of us. Thank you for reading our letters and considering our request.
Sincerely,
Bill Swiderski

Hi Ellen, know what? Our Shawnee is just like you... she just lights up ANY room and also SO many lives! Please know how meaningful this single connection from you would be for her spirits and won't you deliver her an "UP" moment? (minus the balloons) Thank you thank you and love you both Ellen and Shawnee big Hugs! Mary K
Ellen,
I remember the feeling I got from Shawn when a group of administrators at our school introduced themselves to a new group of teachers. I was nervous, but the way Shawn looked at us made me feel wanted, like I was important, and that she trusted us - instantly. I felt like she was one of those people you can feel safe around. I guess I can't put her spirit into words, but I could feel the positivity in her presence. In talking with our staff who have known Shawn for so long, she is very, very much loved and looked up to. Please fulfill her wish! :)

My first year teaching we were asked to observe another teacher who we thought could make us better. I immediately thought of Cap. I wanted to be like her. The way she connects with people — her energy, enthusiasm, humor, and positive nature are all infectious. If there was someone at MCHS who could host the Ellen show, it is Shawn.
Dear Ellen,
While you don't know Shawn, you both have something drastically in common: Joy! As an avid watcher of your show, I've seen you give endlessly to friends, colleagues, and even perfect strangers. You are in the business of joy, and so is my friend Shawn Capodice. I can't imagine how many comments you get every day asking you to call or do something for a special person in need, but I pray that these comments hit your heart in such a way that you KNOW that Shawn needs a call from you. She needs the joy you bring to people, just as she has brought SO MANY joy in our school and town. From one wellspring of joy and inspiration to another, please call her. We love you, Ellen. Thank you for being a shining light in a world that so desperately needs lights like you and Shawn.
M-C-H-S...YOU!!

Shawn is the epitome of what our community has become. She is always there for other people before herself. Minooka has experienced it's fair share of tragedy recently and Shawn has been a rock all along the way. Another teacher/friend of ours passed away from Pancreatic Cancer two years ago. Shawn kept her illness to herself and her family so it wouldn't worry the family and people close to our other teacher. She continued to be a rock for the family and teacher all the while unsure of her own diagnosis/illness. I have had the privilege of being a student and co-worker of Shawn's and I can tell you that there is no kinder, gentler soul than Shawn. This can be seen in the thousands of students that she has impacted and especially in her own family Brian, Niko and Madison. Shawn is the definition of an educator. She is kind, driven, passionate and selfless. If you are lucky enough to have Shawn and her family in your lives then you will forever be a better person for it.
We love you Capodices!!!

Shawn is always upbeat with a smile on her face and a funny story to share. She is the heart of the math department at Minooka Community High School. Her strength, her spirit and her grace has been an inspiration to the whole school community. Shawn LOVES the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and a call from Ellen would make Shawn smile and laugh. It's nice when a simple act can make such an impact. I hope Ellen will give Shawn a call.
Shawn Capodice is one of the most inspiring and strongest women that I know. I count myself so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know and work with her for these many years. She has fought a long battle so very bravely and has asked for little along the way. Ellen, I hope this one very special request of hers will be honored!
Dear Ellen,
Shawn and I started at MCHS together, she was the sunshine of our group. She later taught my daughters math, and even though neither of them enjoyed math, they loved Mrs. Cap and did well in class. Shawn has been through so much in the last 4 years, losing a valued member of the math team and then facing a similar battle herself. Yet, through it all she has encouraged and supported all of Minooka Community HIgh School. Her love of people shines through in all she does. I hope you are able to give her a call; your day will be brightened if you do. She has truly made a difference to so many people.

Dear Ellen,
I first met Shawnee during my college years, she is an amazing woman, who has given endlessly to her family and friends. She has been fighting a very rare form of cancer for a couple of years with grace and courage, all through this time she has continued to look out for her family an friend. What has amazed me is that even in her toughest times, she has always looked out for everyone else, always wanting to know how you are doing and what is going on in your life. Now my friend and family are facing the toughest time in their lives. Shawnee i a huge fan of yours, she shares your sense of humor, love of life and family and would not miss watching you for anything, even in this extremely tough time, you bring a smile to her face.
A call from you, would mean the world to this fabulous lady and her family. No one should have to face the battle that Shawnee has faced at such a young age and no family should have to watch their mother lose a battle to such a rare and formidable oppenant, however i am not sure that i have seen someone do this with such grace, courage, love and strength!
God bless Ellen, please help us make Shawnee's dream come true!!!

Dear Ellen,
For many years, I have worked as an administrator at Minooka Community High School, alongside Mrs. Shawn Capodice. I cannot even begin to tell you the impact she has had on every person she has encountered—student; parent; co-worker, be it janitor, secretary, teacher or superintendent; or stranger. She has never put herself first or considered herself any better than anyone else. In fact, her concern has always been everyone else.
Ellen, Shawn is the epitome of what every human being should be—kind, considerate, energetic, and so much more. Whenever anyone had a question or concern, she immediately stopped what she was doing and put the spotlight on that person.
Mrs. Capodice worked with many of the most challenging students, whose favorite activities did not include school, as well as gifted students. Every day, Mrs. Capodice’s students had a teacher who was on their side, who wanted them to achieve, and who was willing to spend extra time helping them succeed. They were so lucky.
Ellen, I have listened as you have used wit and humor to change lives. Shawn, too, captivates people with her wit, humor, and spontaneity. Giving a pep talk to a male co-worker facing surgery for a major illness, she explained, “I got wigs—red ones, blond ones, ones with curls. I’ll loan them to you. You’ll never miss your hair, and it grows back anyway.” Single-handedly, she changed the atmosphere of the room and, quite likely, the state of mind of everyone there.
Shawn Capodice has had a profound effect on me. She is a wonderful friend who always listens, who is empathetic and supportive, and who is one of the kindest persons I know. A beautiful person through and through and a phenomenal educator, Shawn has left a loving handprint on the heart of everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ellen, Shawn is one of your biggest fans, and she, herself, is again fighting to survive. A call from you will most definitely make her smile. Thank you.

Ellen,
I know I am not the first to say how amazing of a woman Shawnee is. Not only is she a pillar in our community, she is someone very near and dear to my heart. She reminds me of you in so many ways; her wit, her contagious laugh, and her beautiful smile and heart. It would mean the absolute world for Shawnee to hear from you - as she has been a dedicated Ellen member for many, many years. Keeping our fingers crossed! - Kara

Dear Ellen,
My friend and co-worker, Shawn Capodice, loves you! And so do I!! Unfortunately she has been given a rough hand that she doesn’t deserve one bit. She is a person that gets things done, asks for more to do and finishes that before you can think of what else needs to be done! She has gone above and beyond for her friends, family and especially her Co-Workers in their time of need. I admire her strength, stamina, selflessness, and sense of humor. If you two sat down together, you would be able to talk and laugh for hours. I know you don’t have that kind of time, but if you could please call her on the phone and talk to her for a few minutes…that would mean the world to her. Your ability to make people laugh and smile is parallel to Shawnee. She deserves to be the center of the world for a moment. I hope you can please make this wish happen for Shawnee. I know you are receiving a lot of requests for this, which shows you how much we love this woman and how much we want her to be happy.
Thank you so much for your time (and for the laughs each day)!!

Please, PLEASE, Please, Ellen! Shawnee is such a beautiful person, who has been through so much and through it all, continues to inspire everyone who knows her. Please, fulfill this wish for the Capodice family, who have never given up hope. For Shawnee who battles every day with grace and dignity and smiles all the way- please spread rays of sunshine.
Ellen, While checking back in a reading all of these wonderful testaments to such a beautiful person, I think what is lacking is the following; you not only should call Cap, but you NEED to. As much as Cap has done for her family and community and her overall goodness and beauty is something that needs to be shared with everyone, regardless of who they are. Ellen, you yourself would miss out on a once in a lifetime chance to talk with and somewhat get to know, such a beautiful person. Not only does Cap deserve her wish, EVERYONE deserves a brief chance to have Cap touch their lives and feel the impact and power of such a dynamic person. Ellen, pick up the phone, and prepare to feel inspired!!
Ellen,
Mrs. Capodice was my math teacher at Minooka High School about 15 years ago . It still brings a smile to my face to think about her today because she was (and remains) such an AMAZING teacher and a strong, positive female influence in the community. it would mean so much to me, and many other people that she has inspired to remain optimistic throughout challenging circumstances , if you would fulfill her wish by giving her a call. Thanks.
p.s. Love you, Mrs. Cap! I applied the academic knowledge and life lessons you taught during my high school years toward future completion of bachelor's and master's degrees. I hope to complete doctoral study in clinical psychology soon. <3

Dear Ellen,
I have known Shawn for about 10 years. I was introduced to her through my son when he began to play sports at MCHS. My son and her son, Niko, are very good friends. Shawn has an amazing and energetic personality and those surrounded by her will concur that she is one of the most comedic, charismatic, out-going and intelligent women that we know, You absolutely have to call this beautiful woman and hear her voice and feel just how intoxicating her charm and laughter can be! She obviously is a wonderful and smart woman because her only request is to hear your voice Ellen, as thousands (maybe millions) in this country could only dream of.

I first met Shawn at a job search convention in college, I was instantly drawn to her charismatic demeanor. I mean, this woman SHINES. Its like the second you look at her, you start to instantly have fun. She is the perfect balance of professionalism and party, and I knew I HAD to work for her. She carries herself in a way that demands respect and honesty while ensuring everyone around her feels cared for and is genuinely having a good time. She has created a working environment in which everyone can feel loved and cared for. She never focusses on herself, but is always putting others' needs before her own. Please help bring a smile to her face in this time of need.
I have not talked to Shawn in 30 years but it sounds like she has not changed at all. When I moved to Frankfort, IL in 1980 it was Shawn who befriended me for no reason but kindness. She was the most popular girl at Frankfort Jr High and did not need another friend. Because of Shawn, I was accepted by the small community and my horrible fear of moving turned out to be a wonderful experience. I will forever be grateful to Shawn Bundy. Please call her. She has lived her entire life with the best attitude and is always kind. Thank you! BTW, my youngest daughter, Diana, is a HUGE fan of yours and never misses your show.
Ms. Cap is an inspiration to everyone she meets. She always had a smile on her face no matter what came at her! She always greeted me by yelling "Cinny" and even if I was in a bad mood, she knew how to make it better. I can't think of a better way to put a smile on her face than to receive a phone call from you, Ellen! Please give Ms. Cap a call, you won't regret it!!!
Dear Ellen,
Here is another reason why you should call Shawn. My nephew Jake was born with Trisomy 13. He had many birth defects and was not expected to live. Shawn and I went out to lunch with my sister in law and Jake. Most people when they met Jake were a little startled and quiet. Shawn was the opposite. She asked to hold him and proclaimed that he had happy hair! She did not see the birth defects but the perfect angel we knew he was. It was a perfect memory to treasure when Jake died several months later. Please call Ellen

Dear Ellen,
I've had the pleasure of meeting Shawn a few times, my brother in law Michael was one of her staff members in the Math department. When unfortunate events took place in my family's life she was there to support my sister, Anna, and Michael every step of the way! Even after he passed she still remained very much apart of my sister's life. Shawn is such an amazingly strong, selfless and loving woman.. please reach out and give her a call! It would truly be appreciated by many!

Dear Ellen,
I don’t want you to miss out on a big opportunity to meet a very special person. I know that you may be receiving a lot of mail about someone wanting to meet you; however, I think it’s the other way around. I would hate for you to go through life not meeting Shawn Capodice-a woman with a heart of gold.
Her name SHAWN says it all.
Selfless...I don’t know a person in my life who is more selfless than Shawn Capodice. She never thinks about herself as she is always putting others before her.
Hope…ever since I have known Shawn, she has inspired every person in her life, including me.
Awesome…the woman is just plain f’ing awesome!!!
Willingness… to do whatever for everyone she knows.
Nurturing…when you meet her family, you will understand what I mean.
As I have said, Shawn is an extraordinary person who I think you would appreciate talking to. She is someone I have great respect and admiration for. Ellen, it would mean a lot to everyone who has written to you, more impotanly- Shawn, if you could find it in your heart to take time out of your busy schedule to call this amazing woman. When you call her, Shawn will leave an everlasting impression on you as she has with so many others.
Sincerely,
Derrick Rapsky

Dear Ellen
Shawnee is an amazing person and one of my best friends. She loves watching you and you make her laugh. Not that she needs help in that area. One of her wishes is to receive a call from you, please call her and make this wish come true. Shawnee always makes people laugh and can be depended upon for the outrageous comments.

Dear Ellen,
All of us have been leaving comments about Shawn's humor, her sense of fun, and the love she brings to all of us. I want to let you know that Shawn is also a spirited advocate for children. We were new department chairs together twelve years ago and filling very large shoes from our predecessors. Throughout the last twelve years together, we have laughed together many times but I also know the steel this lady carries in her backbone. She wants the teachers in her department to excel in their craft. She believes in her students. She seeks excellence in teachers and nurtures it with a fierce determination to make the math department of MCHS the best it can be. Please call her.

To know Shawn is to love her. She is a contagious spirit of positiveness and makes everyone feel welcomed and loved. Shawn is one in a million! Ellen, if you can make her dream come true by calling Shawn, you will also give all of us a way to say thanks for all you have done and for being amazing beyond belief! Ellen you and Shawn are so similar. You both make people laugh, feel empowered and are selfless. People like You and Shawn are a gift! She is just a phone call away:)
My friend Shawn has been the epitome of sunshine in our high school throughout her career. Her smile lights a path in our school for all of us to follow. She always has a positive attitude and has also been known to do a perfect cartwheel to raise money for a friend. Please fulfill her wish!
