The housing prices in the Bay Area right now are insane.

That's why I wanted to share this picture that Larry Miller sent me of his home in Nevada.

I thought what said was interesting especially the part about how Nevada has no state income tax and there is no need for him to lock his doors.

He wrote:

I’m 63 years old and in 1989 we moved to a little town called Gardnerville, Nevada.

It’s four hours from the Bay Area.
I’m 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
We love the weather.

Also no state tax, low property tax , no homeless, 1 murder every 10 years , no need to lock your doors.

I have 3.5 acres and a 2500 square foot home built in 1991 for $185k.
I could sell today for 500k.

Moving there was the best thing I ever did besides marrying my wife.

I struggled to make a living for 20 years but finally found my calling and became a candy maker, company called Tahoetoffee.

Just thought I’d let you know there are way better places than the Bay Area.

---Larry J. Miller

A person down the street from me just moved to Bend, Oregon.
He wanted a slower and less expensive life for his family.
I get it.

I've posted before about how it feels like San Francisco is a city of haves and have nots.
It seems like there's virtually no one left in the middle.

I live in Oakland.
I love seeing all the development downtown.

But at the same time prices are going way up and people are being forced to move.

And then there’s the homeless situation in the Bay Area.
As far as I’m concerned it’s completely out of control.

I know there are a lot of people working to try to fix the problem and God bless them.

But it feels like they are only making a dent.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area.
However for the first time in my life I can actually picture myself moving somewhere else when I retire.

I’m not there yet.
But just the fact that I’m even thinking about it is bizarre to me.

I won’t be going to Gardnerville though.
I HATE the snow.
Sorry Larrry but I have to be someplace warm.
