This is Anthony Borges.
He is 15 years old.
Last week he was shot five times in the back and legs last week during that massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
His fellow students say he saved countless lives after he locked the door to a classroom and then blocked the doorway with his body while the gunman was firing.
A fellow student told ABC News:
"None of us knew what to do.
So, he took the initiative to just save his other classmates.”
The Broward County Sheriff’s Department posted this picture of the Sheriff visiting Anthony.
“Sheriff Israel was honored to visit Anthony Borges, 15, in the hospital today.
His family shared that Anthony was shot five times in Wednesday's school attack.
Fortunately, he is recovering -- but has a long road ahead with more surgeries needed.
Please join us in praying for the swift recovery of Anthony and all the other victims of this horrific criminal act.”
I’ve read that lawyers for the gunman say he will plead guilty IF prosecutors don’t go after the death penalty.
My first thought was:
How about just pleading guilty because you did it.
You took 17 lives for no reason.
Just take whatever punishment you get.
Honestly if he killed my son or daughter, life without parole wouldn’t be good enough for me.
I wonder how the other parents feel.
I imagine prosecutors will let them decide whether to take the deal.
