This Couple's Proposal Shot Hid a Heart- Shaped Surprise
"Haley and I met 3 1/2 years ago working at the Iowa State Capitol building. We both served as Clerks in the Iowa House of Representatives. I saw her while she was walking up the stairs and I was immediately drawn to her. I soon found out she worked on the opposite side of the aisle from me, but that didn't stop us. I thought it was cliche to marry your best friend. Later, we moved to Washington, D.C. together, 1,000 miles away from our home and friends. I realized she was my best friend and that is exactly what I wanted to do. After we moved back to Des Moines, Iowa I started looking for a ring. Ring shopping is tough and stressful. I knew she would love any ring I got her, but you still don't want to mess something up that is going to be someone's finger for 60 plus years. After I found the perfect ring for her, I went on to ask the blessings from her parents and start planning the special day.
The perfect opportunity hit when I was speaking with Haley's step-mom. She told us we will be doing family pictures for a holiday card. That is when I officially asked Haley to marry me and be my 'soup snake' (The Office Reference, Inside joke) for the rest of my life. It wasn't until later that night that we discovered our shadows from holding hands made a heart."
