I was very disappointed in what the President said tonight about NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem.

I thought his words were divisive and insulting.

Here’s what the President said:

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a (expletive) off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!'”

With those words the President just completely wrote off all of those players.
And essentially said that “why” they are doing it doesn’t matter.

He just as easily could have said this:

"I disagree with players taking a knee.
I’ve always believed that you stand for the National Anthem.
But even if I disagree, it’s still their right to do that.
They are still Americans.
They are still patriotic.
And I think it’s important for all of us to try to understand the meaning behind it.”

One of the things that makes this country great is that we are free to express ourselves.
We are free to burn the flag.
We are free to kneel during the National Anthem.

On Sunday I hope that NFL players, both white and black, make a real statement and ALL take a knee.
That would be something to see.

Honestly if I could, I’d be out there with them.
That’s how strongly I feel about this.

And for the record I’m as patriotic as them come.
I love our flag.
I love our military.
I love our country and everything it represents.

Especially the fact that we are free to kneel or sit during the National Anthem.

I'm sure there are going to be people who vehemently disagree with me.
And that's okay.
I'd like to hear your thoughts.
All I ask is that you keep them respectful.
