Description
This picture is amazing.
It was taken by Leslie Richter.
And she gave me permission to share it.

I asked her how she got it.
She said:

We went out specifically looking for whales since there had been many recent sightings including some inside SF Bay.
We saw many whale’s spouts and the occasional tail, but this whale was slapping the water with its flippers and tail, and occasionally diving.

This was a lucky capture -- there is no warning when a humpback whale breaches, and I wasn't looking in this direction.

But when my boyfriend, Peter, yelled "breach" I swung my camera around and managed to get the shot.

I didn't expect the autofocus to catch up, so I was very pleased when I downloaded the images and found this one.

I used a Nikon D810, 80-400mm VR lens.

I hate to admit this.
But when I first saw this picture I didn’t think it was real.
I thought it was photoshopped.
I honestly thought there’s no way that happened.
But I was wrong.
This picture is 100 percent real.

Outstanding job Leslie.

I spent about half an hour on her site.
Her shots are amazing.
