Saturday March 18th we celebrated my sister's 28 birthday. My sister is mentally disabled, and loves music. Music is our language. Her words aren't always clear, but we all understand music. From Frozen to Eminem and Backstreet Boys- we sing, we dance, we love. For her birthday party, we had 5 of her friends who are also special needs, some family and kids get together at a local music studio- the Laboratory in Wallingford CT. What happened was magical. My sister, her friends and family all came together to celebrate her love of music. The man of the hour (or 3) was Ty. I am forever in debt for all he did to ensure Natalies dreams came true. Ty was patient and kind and so so sweet to everyone, giving each friend their opportunity to shine. He never once rushed us or seemed disinterested. He gave words of wisdom to the kids, telling them things they could do to improve, that they too can go places and follow their dreams. Ty beat boxed and rapped with everyone, he played some of his very own music(in which made everyone speechless) and you could see he felt the power in each song just as the person singing behind the mic. His studio was the perfect place to celebrate a very special birthday. This man deserves all the recognition this world can give him, for that night- he gave my sister the world.
