As a baby, Maira was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF), a devastating disease that has taken its toll on her lung over the years. In 2014, one of her lungs collapsed, and her family moved to Texas from Pakistan so she could receive the treatment and care she needs. Little Maira has spent most of her life in the hospital, and now doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to her survival.
This has been an incredibly difficult time for Maira’s father and mother, as they want nothing more than to stay in the United States surrounded by the doctors who can help save their daughter’s life. They dream of seeing their little girl healthy, happy and playing like other children her age, but they need your help.
Through social media campaigns and the help of Pakistani news stations, the Junaid family was able to raise $100,000 to deposit with the transplant center, and now they’re faced with an even greater fundraising challenge—raising nearly $2 million before Maira can receive her new lungs. The hospital has estimated that Maira’s double-lung transplant will cost approximately $1 million, and that her family will face $800,000 in expenses for her first three years post-transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Maira. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Texas Transplant Fund, 5350 Poplar Avenue, Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. Please be sure to write "in honor of Maira Junaid" on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
