South High Marathon Dance Raises $762,153.87 For Charities!
Description
MOREAU, NY — Dancers at the 39th annual South High Marathon Dance on March 4-5 raised a record $762,000, which will be donated to 43 individuals and organizations chosen by a committee of students at South Glens Falls High School. The money raised topped last year’s total of about $622,000 raised by students participating in the 24-hour dance event. The event has raised a total of about $5.5 million in since its inception in 1977, when it began as a small dance in the high school gym.

More than $105,000 was raised by just 15 students this year. This year over 800 students participated in dancing over 28 hours! Local businesses also held fundraisers, which added thousands to the total amount raised. Students and families in other South Glens Falls schools raised more than $62,000.

Students, faculty, alumni, and parents come together and work for months on choosing recipients, the dance themes, costume party themes, decorations, logistics, dances, production, and many more tasks!

This is the closing dance video of the dance, performed before the recipients entered and had a chance to say a few words and the astonishing total was announced.

Visit shmd.org to learn more on the history of the dance, to see the charities & recipients chosen and more!

For more videos visit the South High Marathon Dance youtube page as well as the Facebook page! Everyone involved deserves recognition for their hard work and dedication! Please help by voting it up and liking!

We were recipients this year. The closing ceremony was a life changing day.  Hearing about the recipients and how these kids help them emotionally and financially.  Heart strings pulled. Our community is so proud and grateful for South High. How has The Ellen Show missed these kids over the years. The time is now. THANKS Ellen ❤️❤️

My 16 month old daughter was a 2016 SHMD recipient.  Words cannot explain how blessed we feel to have been part of such an amazing event.

Ellen, these students have an incredible gift to show the world.... The gift of selflessness!  They put in so much hard work, sweat, and tears to change the lives of people they may or may not know.  They have given us all HOPE!  It is truly inspirational!

Please Ellen, check out the South High Marathon Dance, I guarantee you'll be emotionally touched by what these students do!   We certainly are!  ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ellen- really believe that you and others would be inspired by the teens in SGF. Participating in marathon through out high school (years ago;) left me with amazing memories of teamwork, compassion and a wider undertanding of others. An experience I wish every teen could be a part of. Over 80% of the student population participated this year! Some of these kids save birthday money, collect and turn in cans, and even save their summer job earnings to donate! Mark your calendar for next year's date- March 3 & 4 2017! Something special here...look at what they raised this year to give to service groups and individuals in need...AMAZING ♡

This is such a community event. Some of the dancers are now children of former dancers. They have helped so many people. People caring about people. That's what life is all about. Please give them the attention they deserve for their 40th next March. Just send someone to our town and ask anyone you meet about the dance.
