My name is Emily Lites I'm 17 years old and I'm going to share my family's story. When I was an innocent ten year old I came home to a very upsetting, dark, and quiet house. I was concerned and finally my parents sat me down and told me that my brother would never be normal. Eventually I wrapped my brain around the fact that my brother Jude had a stroke before he was born and it had caused massive brain damage. Yes, children can have stroke,s this phrase has changed my family's life for ever. My brother has seizures, epilepsy, scoliosis, chronic lung disease, cerebral palsy, and much more. I spent a lot of time in the hospital with him and I found hospitals to be boring and sad place. I felt alone in a scary place, however my mom is strong and raised me to be strong, so I decided to make a difference and Jude was my inspiration! I now make boxes full of toys and gifts to give to patients and siblings during hospital visits. Over the past 7 years with my friends and family and strangers from all over the world I've made almost 13,000 boxes and I've raised over 120,000 dollars. I've also helped give a family Christmas items, adopt multiple angels from the salvation army, and help raise money for other charities. I started off with a small action and it changed into a big impact that I'm so thankful for! I see things in a different light because of my brother and the stories I hear from children receiving my boxes. I would love to be on Ellen to share my story as well as raising funds for my 5K run/walk for pediatric stroke awareness. We will also be making 400 smile boxes at the event!! I would love to share my brothers inspirational story.
