Smiles for Baby Charley
Description
Charley was born on August 13th 2013. She was healthy and beautiful with 10 fingers and 10 toes, she was the happiest baby Id ever seen. She was perfect!

At 2 months old I started to think she was a little on the small side. I asked her doctor and he said that she was fine, she may just be a small child. At 3 months old I was even more concerned and took her back to the doctors office and in fact she had lost weight from her last visit. We then started trying to figure out what was causing her weight loss. After many tests and scans they found a mass in her brain. We were flown to children's of Alabama in Birmingham. There they did a biopsy and December 3rd 2013 Charley was diagnosed with brain cancer Pilocytic Astrrocytoma and an extremely rare neurological disorder Diencephalic Syndrome that is caused the tumors.

DIencephalic Syndrome is a very rare neurological disorder characterized by failure to thrive, abnormal thinness (emaciation), amnesia, intense sleepiness, unusual eye position and sometimes blindness. It is normally seen in infancy or early childhood but some cases have been reported in older children and even adults. Diencephalic syndrome is usually caused by a brain tumor such as a low-grade glioma or astrocytoma.

Charley is such a little champ!  Thank God she has the people in her life who can and will help her through all this.  Her mom, dad, and big brother are all amazing!
I am her grandmother who lives far away.  I know all your prayers will make a difference.  Thank you!

We met Charley's mother when she was just a teenager. When she had her son I used to babysit him. Then 8 years later she introduced us to the most precious little girl, as close as we were to her mom we felt as if we had a new "granddaughter". We were devastated when we found out about Charley's diagnosis. We traveled from our hometown which is Charley's hometown also to Birmingham to offer her and her family support. We thought of creating the Smiles for Charley page just to keep others that knew the family that lived in our community keep up with her progress. Little did we know that this little fighter that always had a smile on her face even through everything she had going on would become so popular and help so many people. So many times we read comments from people all over the country, all over the world letting us know how Charley has touched their lives and how much joy she brings to them. This little girl is so very, very special. I believe she was placed in our lives to bring joy to us and everyone elses lives that she comes in contact for. I am so very pleased to see that the Ellen show has noticed her and can see how special she is. We love this little angel so much and smile with every little thing she does and learns. Thank you to all of Charley's Angels for your continued support and thank you Ellen Degeneres for recognizing this special Angel.
