Alyssa's lemonade stand fundraiser

Hi Ellen! I really want to share this with you. I love your show and know you love kids. I know you will love this story. The story is that over 2 years ago my daughter, Jennifer, and her family (son in law, Joe, Damien, 13 yr old grandson, and Alyssa, 10 yr old granddaughter) house burned down. The contractor was supposed to finish rebuilding their house in 6 months. The work on the house was sporadic, sometimes leaving the house sitting untouched for months at a time. Finally after 2 years they took off with the money. The house is 50% finished and many subcontractors were left unpaid. My 10 yr old granddaughter, Alyssa, decided to help by having a lemonade stand. My daughter's very good friend, Natalie, myself and many others decided to help her organize it and make baked goods to sell. Alyssa wrote a letter to her favorite morning show, the Kane show 93.3 FLZ, 4 days before the lemonade stand hoping for just a little advertisement. What resulted is something truly amazing. Kane and his crew got the show's Tampa family involved and the local news stations interviewed Jennifer and family. The coverage spread on Facebook and on Saturday, May 16, Alyssa's lemonade stand fundraiser was a huge success. People drove hours to meet Alyssa and buy a cup of lemonade from her. We had a lot of children bringing their piggy bank savings and telling their parents they have to come help Alyssa get home. The link I'm sending you will give you more details from the Facebook page with many pictures of the event. They still have quite a way to go, but this was an amazing, heartwarming start. I'm so happy my grandchildren were able to see that they can make a difference in the world and that we have such a caring community.
